Procrastination; I will do it later!

If you can do it later, why not try to do it now?

One common trait we all naturally possess is having things to do and when to do them. It is mostly referred to as a schedule or daily plan. As much as we desire to achieve everything on our schedule list, we postpone them later. Even things that ought to be done now are left for later and now are used to either lazing around or do irrelevant things.

Today, I will introduce you all to Ms. Procrastination; she was my best friend. In the past, I was excellent at planning for later, but never for now. I believe in doing everything later or at the last minute, and it was quite unfortunate that I hardly got to do it later as the latter never came.

What is Procrastination?

Procrastination is simply the act of delaying or putting off tasks until the last minute or past their deadline. It is the force that prevents you from following through on what you set out to do. Procrastination is a strong and mysterious force that stops one from completing the most urgent and important tasks. It’s also a potentially dangerous force as its victims normally fail at school, perform poorly at work, and put off doctor’s appointments and medical treatment, among other essential life actions.

Regardless of how well-organized and committed you are, you have suddenly found yourself frittering away hours on unnecessary activities such as surfing the internet aimlessly, especially when you should be working on either a school or work-related task. It doesn’t matter what you are putting off for later; Procrastination can have a major impact on your job, grades, and general life.

Here are my two favourite definitions of Procrastination by some scholars

Procrastination is a brutal time robber to overcome. It is a real test of our commitment to apply sound management principles to a problem area…we must analyse what we procrastinate about, and what interruptions and excuses we find to get out of doing that difficult or unpleasant task. — Jack D. Ferner

Procrastination is the bad habit of putting off until the day after tomorrow what should have been done the day before yesterday.

End Notes…

The best time to off procrastination is now! Don’t plan for tomorrow, do it now!
